Flight Delays

Flight Delays

Travelling is indeed exciting, and we all eagerly wait to pack our bags and leave for the desired destination. While we plan for any trip, it is also necessary to have a backup plan for that journey, just in case you encounter any unfortunate incident during the trip which can play a spoilsport. One such incident could be flight delays. When we are travelling, there are high possibilities of flight delays due to:

  • Bad Weather
  • Natural Disasters like floods, earthquakes, cyclones, etc.
  • Air Traffic
  • Waiting For Connecting Passengers
  • Mechanical Delays

Things You Can Do at the Airport If You Have a Delayed Flight

Know Your Passenger Rights

Know Your Passenger Rights

Having an ample amount of information increases your chances of minimizing the negative impact of an unexpected event. Air travel is a heavily regulated industry, and passengers are well-protected at the national and international levels. Therefore, being informed increases your chances of minimizing the negative impact of a flight disruption.

Find Out The Cause Of The Delay

Find Out The Cause Of The Delay

As a passenger, you have the right to know the reason for the delay of your flight. That is particularly important as it will determine your right to claim compensation and other expenses such as the meal costs.

Contact The People And Service Providers Affected By Your Flight Delay

Contact The People And Service Providers Affected By Your Flight Delay

If you have booked services at your destination, notify them if your arrival time changes. For example, if you’ve booked a car rental or a shuttle, let them know your flight is delayed so they can hold onto your reservation. Certain car rental companies will hold your vehicle for up to 24 hours from the scheduled pick-up time if your flight has been delayed. This is important as it will safeguard your reservation, and your bill will not consist of unnecessary costs or no-show penalties. Similarly, if you’ve booked a hotel room and won’t be able to make it during the check-in times, do give them a call.

Inclusions under Flight Delays Cover in Travel Insurance

The insured person will get reimbursement of expenses on meals and refreshments if a flight delay or connecting flight has arrived late. The coverage limit for expenses will be as per the amount mentioned in your policy.
